Aroba Photo, Film, and Creative Arts Foundation was founded to equip young and emerging creatives with the necessary space, training, resources and support to express their creativity without limitations. We serve as an incubator for nurturing talent ad ideas, fostering artistic growth and providing opportunities for collaboration.
Beyond empowering creatives, Aroba is deeply committed to preserving and passing down Africa’s ancestral knowledge and cultural heritage. By blending traditional influences with modern artistic expression, the foundation ensures that Africa’s stories, history and artistic legacy are not only safeguarded but also reimagined for future generations. Overview
The continent of Africa is currently experiencing an exponential flock of young and vibrant talent in the technology space. Accelerators, venture studios and venture capital firms keep populating the space to counsel, nurture and fund startups and tech centric companies but little or no attention is given to creative businesses.
Creatives on the other hand lack the business acumen to go about their business and in turn struggle to make ends meet and which by implication makes them forgo their creative business and by doing so, the continent suffers great loss – lack of soft power and diminishing economics.
The Creative Practice Accelerator is a programme for creatives to learn the art, science and culture of creativity and skills for powering impactful and sustainable creative business.

In 2023, we launched the Doc-You-Mentary Bootcamp Initiative, tagged “understanding and exploring the world around you”, to connect non-fiction storytellers, train them and answer some of the most pertinent questions of the participants -ranging from early to mid-career documentary photographers and filmmakers in across multiple states in Nigeria – through thought-provoking sessions, film screenings, games and meditation, in a serene beach house with a view of the Atlantic Ocean, encouraging participants to relax, recenter and explore collaborations among themselves.
Overview
At Aroba Creative hub, we host monthly events called “Aroba Presents” where we spotlight a budding creative professional to share their journey with the community, including their successes, failures and current endeavors. We converge and share knowledge through film screenings (finished works or projects in-progress), art classes and workshops, ask questions and share feedback. This allows creatives to lean on the power of connectivity, and know that they are not alone and isolated in their pursuit of excellence.
Our physical hub provides an opportunity for creativity, collaboration and community to thrive. We are the perfect melting point between ideas and reality, a canvas for creative expression. We believe in the potential of the creative community and the need for spaces that encourage learning, play, experimentation and productivity. We are equipped with a multimedia studio space, a workstation, a library and a space for creative events.
Our name Aroba is derived from a popular Yoruba phrase “Aroba ni baba itan” which literally translates as “Aroba is the father of history”. The phrase emphasises that true understanding of life and history begins with “Aroba” which implies that the passage of wisdom and ancestral knowledge is at the core of cultural heritage. As a result, we promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge, whether it is peer-to-peer or inter-generational.
